PAGE 3 Danni is the golden girl ahead of the DVD release of epic fantasy movie Immortals.

The Sun beauty donned body paint to become the Greek goddess Athena, played in the film by Isabel Lucas. It took a few hours for her to become the goddess of wisdom, but the results are truly heavenly.

Danni, who is one of our longest-serving Page 3 girls, said: “I had a great day shooting this for Immortals. “I wasn’t too sure what to expect after being told I was going to be body painted. I thought the make-up artist was brilliant.

IT came from outer space . . . and left thousands of stunned Brits wondering if ET had finally come to v

Startled onlookers the length of the nation flooded police and emergency services with calls after watching this bright orange fireball streak across the Saturday night sky.

Witnesses from northern Scotland to the South East coast feared the flash of fire between 9.40 and 9.50pm was a burning plane or even a UFO.

But experts identified it as one of the most spectacular meteors to grace our skies in 30 years — delighting dedicated stargazers.

And today a florist has come forward to claim she may have found it.

Joanne Pain, from Redcar, Cleveland, says she discovered the space rock while taking her dog for a walk yesterday.

Despite sightings of the meteorite having taken place as far south as Bradwell-On-Sea, Essex — 270 miles away — the 43-year-old believes her discovery could be genuine.

She said: “We’ve looked it up on the internet and it looks like one.

“It’s heavy and it has what looks like ‘small white chondrules’ described on the internet.

“We’ve seen pictures of them where they’ve hit cars on the internet and done quite a bit of damage.”

Sun reader Pam Lewis, 42, from Ellesmere Port, Cheshire, watched the fireball pass her house with daughter Chelsea, 15.

She said: “I was watching TV when Chelsea said, ‘Mum, look at the sky’. I was mesmerised — I’d never seen anything like it before.

“It was there for five to ten seconds and going straight across the sky over the tops of the houses.

“I was a bit scared. It was like a Fireworks Night rocket, but so close that it felt like you could touch it.”

David Isaacson, 39, a technology entrepreneur from Manchester, was having a cigarette when he saw it.

He said: “I thought I was seeing things. There was a big ball of fire coming towards me — I didn’t know what to do. My heart started thumping, but then the thing disappeared over the back of my house.”

Dozens of thrilled astronomers posted reports of the sighting on the website of the American Meteor Society. Amateur stargazer Phil Randall, of Sutton-in-Ashfield, Notts, said: “It was the longest and brightest fireball I’ve ever seen.”

Ross Niven, of Monifieth, near Dundee, called it “spectacular”.

Gary Fildes was hosting a seminar at the Kielder Observatory in Northumberland when he and 40 guests got a 40-second view of the fireball.

He said: “It was phenomenal. Everyone went mental. I was getting questions asking, ‘What is it’? and, ‘Is it going to end life on Earth’? It was absolutely amazing.”

Amateur photographer Mike Ridley snapped the meteor against the backdrop of a laser display in Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear. He said: “I caught the white light and an orange glowing tail. It was spectacular.”

Hannah Godwin, of Bradwell-on-Sea, Essex, said: “It was truly amazing.”

A spokesman for Strathclyde Police said the force had been “inundated” with calls.

Cops in the Grampian, Dumfries and Galloway and Lothian and Borders areas also reported calls.

Author and astronomer Dr David Whitehouse said the object was the size of a fist and was probably the debris of a planet which never properly formed.

He said: “It’s probably come from somewhere between Mars and Jupiter. It may have hit the ground. But until people work out its trajectory we won’t know where.” The Sun

ONE in three teenage girls have faced “sexual violence” from a boy they knew, a shock new campaign reveals.

A Government drive launched today aims to dispel the myth date rape is rare and that most attacks come from strangers.

Deputy PM Nick Clegg will reveal the hidden epidemic of abuse as he unveils the campaign, the first on rape aimed specifically at teenagers.

According to NSPCC research the highest proportion of sexual abuse on under-18s, 66 per cent, is perpetrated by others in the same age group.

A third of all teenage girls have reported experiencing some form of abuse from a boyfriend, or at least someone they were acquainted with.

And one in six BOYS also say they have been the victim of sex-related violence.

Mr Clegg is to unveil a Coalition push to challenge the myths around attacks including a graphic TV, cinema and online advertising campaign.

A TV ad, to be screened during shows for youngsters such as E4’s Skins, depicts a boy forcing a girl to have sex at a party even though she pleads with him to stop.

The boy’s double is shown watching the attack helplessly from behind an invisible wall as the ad asks: “If you could see yourself, would you see rape?” The campaign will make it clear that it is a criminal offence to have sex with someone who does not want to.

Mr Clegg, who will visit a rape crisis centre today, said: “This hard-hitting campaign shows rape is not just about violent attacks by strangers.

“We want to bring this issue out into the open and get young people talking about the importance of consent.” Home Office minister Lynne Featherstone said: “The campaign aims to dispel the myths that can lead to acceptance of rape in relationships.” The Sun

Syria Permits U.N. Visit but Escalates Effort to Crush Opposition

Posted by REPÚBLICA BANANA PEOPLE em março 5, 2012

Published: March 5, 2012

Syria’s government made diplomatic gestures on Monday toward seeking an end to the uprising that has convulsed the country, agreeing for the first time to allow visits by the top United Nations relief official and by the newly designated envoy who represents both the United Nations and Arab League. But activists said that Syrian security forces did not let up in their ferocious campaign to crush opposition in the most restive areas.

Activists said the Syrian armed forces sent troops into Dara’a, the southern town where the protests began a year ago, and that artillery units bombarded the town of Rastan in central Syria, not far from Homs, an epicenter of the uprising that has been devastated by more than month of shelling and gunfire.

The Syrian diplomatic gestures came as new reports emerged of Syrian civilians fleeing into neighboring Lebanon to escape the stepped-up military action. The United Nations refugee agency said that 2,000 Syrian refugees had crossed the border into Lebanon since the weekend. The Associated Press, in a dispatch from Qaa, a border town in northeast Lebanon, said the fleeing Syrians, including families with small children, left their homes hastily with a few bags of belongings because of the army’s shelling of their communities.

China, one of the Syrian government’s few remaining international supporters, announced on Monday that it was sending its own special representative to Damascus in the hope of halting the conflict, which has caused a new rift between China and the Arab countries that have been pushing for stronger action against the president of Syria, Bashar al-Assad.

Valerie Amos, the United Nations under secretary general for humanitarian affairs, said in a statement that Mr. Assad’s government had given her permission to visit Syria for three days starting Wednesday. The Syrian government had refused for a month to allow Ms. Amos to visit.

At the same time, Kofi Annan, the former United Nations secretary general who was appointed last week as a special representative to Syria for the United Nations and the Arab League, announced that he too would visit Damascus starting on Saturday. His mission, he said, is “to seek an urgent end to all violence and human rights violations, and to initiate the effort to promote a peaceful solution to the Syrian crisis.” The Syrian Arab News Agency, the state-run news service, said Syria “welcomes the visit.”

Thousands of Syrians, mostly civilians, have been killed by security forces since the uprising started last March as a peaceful protest against Mr. Assad’s autocratic rule, energized by the Arab Spring democracy revolts in Tunisia, Egypt and Libya.

Since then the uprising has come to resemble a civil war, with armed opponents of Mr. Assad, many of them defectors from the army, organizing themselves to fight back. Mr. Assad’s opponents remain a fractious group and lack a cohesive leadership, further hampering their efforts.

Mr. Assad has rejected criticism of his tactics and vowed to crush the protesters, whom he has described as terrorist gangs financed by hostile foreign powers. His attempts to defeat them escalated sharply a month ago, when an Arab League peace proposal to the Security Council that called on him to step aside was vetoed by Russia and China. Mr. Assad appeared to interpret that veto as a green light to use more lethal force.

Much of the military’s campaign had focused on Homs in the center of the country, where rights activists have said hundreds of people have been killed in one neighborhood alone. Although rebel fighters vacated the neighborhood, Baba Amr, last Thursday, the government has refused to allow Red Cross relief teams in.

Reuters quoted a resident of Dara’a as saying by telephone that hundreds of soldiers and security operatives had begun fanning out in Dara’a on a scale not seen for months. The Local Coordination Committees, a Syrian opposition group, said that military forces had assaulted some Dara’a neighborhoods in the middle of the night and that at least two people were killed.

In Rastan, at least seven people have been killed by Syrian artillery since Sunday, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a London-based activist group with a network of contacts inside Syria. These casualty tolls are impossible to corroborate because the Syrian government has restricted press access in much of the country. Nick Cumming-Bruce contributed reporting from Geneva. NYT.com
